Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be released in the Spring alongside Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, and Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Below you can hopefully find answers to any questions you have!

toggleWhy are you doing this to me, Yacht Club Games? Why don’t you just sell the updates as DLC!?

We want to keep our promise of releasing free content for all players. We also want to continue building these campaigns and features to be the best! Somewhere along the way, the game has simply gotten too big! It’s difficult for many players out there to find everything or even know that these campaigns exist. We believe that providing standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players and allow more people to continue enjoying each adventure on their next favorite platform.

toggleAren’t the campaigns all post-game Shovel Knight? I had to beat the game as Shovel Knight to even play as Plague Knight, right?

As we create more campaigns and modes, we’re also branching out to different players and playstyles! Some players prefer learning the explosive techniques of Plague Knight over Shovel Knight’s steady & stoic gameplay. Shovel Knight co-op might be an adventure you and a friend decide to take on over a holiday break, where as Battle Mode is a hectic 4-player game to break out during a party! While they all have the backbone of 2D action platforming, there’s a lot of different styles here. That’s why with Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove you’ll have access to all available campaigns right from the start.

toggleIf I already own Shovel Knight on 3DS/PC/Mac/Linux/Wii U/XB1/PS4/PS3/PS Vita/Amazon Fire will I still get Specter of Torment, King Knight, and Battle Mode for free?

Yes. However, as always, Battle Mode is a local-play-only game and so will not appear on 3DS and PS Vita.

toggleI own a physical cartridge/disc of Shovel Knight on 3DS/Wii U/PS4/PS Vita will I still get Specter of Torment, King Knight, and Battle Mode for free?

Yes. However, as always, Battle Mode is a local-play-only game and so will not appear on 3DS and PS Vita.

toggleWhat do I have to do to make sure my version of Shovel Knight becomes Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove?! Is there a time limit? Or a store? Or a link? Or a voucher?

Nothing! Just like how existing versions expanded with the the Plague of Shadows update, all current versions of Shovel Knight will become this new version automatically!

toggleIf I own Shovel Knight on another platform, can I get the game on a new platform like the Nintendo Switch for free?

No, but that’s part of the reason we’re making these changes! Hopefully, it’ll be easier to jump in on a new campaign on any system of your choosing.

toggleWhy aren’t the standalone versions launching on all platforms?

Our goal is to provide the standalones on the most current gen systems (ones you’re most likely to switch to play new content).

toggleAre there any gameplay differences between the standalone campaign and a campaign found in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove?

Nope! These will feature the same gameplay content for that particular character, campaign, or mode. The biggest difference is that Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove has it all in one place. Both versions will have the same Challenges and Feats, but the standalone campaign versions may correlate more Feats to Trophies / Achievements, due to to the rules on that platform.

toggleAre you ever going to make a new game?

These are new games! But if you want something new outside of Shovel Knight…we have vowed to begin work on a new project this year!

toggleWhen does Specter of Torment arrive as a free update?

You’ll be able to download the update in April (the exact release date will vary based on platform). We’ll be sure to share any conclusive release dates here!

toggleWhy is Specter of Torment coming to Nintendo Switch first?

The number of platforms and regions we’re shooting for makes it impossible to shoot for all platforms simultaneously. Since we are such a small team, we need to stagger the releases. Fortunately, Nintendo has really been helping our submission and testing process so we can release as early as possible!

toggleWhat will the price be of the standalone versions?

Shovel Knight:Treasure Trove will launch at $24.99 and Specter of Torment on Switch will launch at $9.99. Others to be announced soon.

toggleWill there be a physical version of Shovel Knight on Switch?

We currently are only planning a digital release. We may consider doing one in the future.

More Q&A to come in the future! Please let us know any of your questions so we can answer them!
